Pedro Batista, "Standstil"

Pedro Batista presents a new body of work produced while at a residency at BOA Gallery. "Standstill" is where the memories and time itself have a surprising encounter. The occasional deployment of brighter colours and the use of stagnant figures translate the artist's insatiable willingness to record the impressions that arose in a year when humanity was challenged in its perception of space and time.
The artist creates a dream-like narrative by juxtaposing urban sceneries and structural elements with a warm pastel palette. It doesn't seem occasional as dreaming helps us to remove the sharper edges of reality.
Dreaming is considered a biological process that consolidates recent events, integrating them with past experiences and maintaining the stability of existing memories in the face of the present. Thus, Standstill explores those valuable recollections of the past, conserved photographically and in the souvenirs intertwined with the accumulated knowledge of life, resulting in this autobiographical universe.
